DCI

An innovative armored vehicle communications solution for the entire range of old and new combat vehicles – battle tanks, AFVs, APCs, command vehicles and even naval missile ships.

The MDIS is a fully digital, full duplex system, featuring next-generation audio and data functionality with DSP technology.  The MDIS system is completely modular, with the Central Switch (CS) automatically accepting any added or removed elements (external units, internal cards, other system components) with no installation or adjustments needed.

The MDIS features high redundancy with star-network architecture, and has been field-proven in Israel's advanced MERKAVA Tanks under real combat conditions.

The MDIS Network includes:

  • Central Switch (CS)
  • Up to 4 System Control Units (SCUs) - 1 connected directly to the CS, 3 Connected via LAN
  • Up to 5 Crew Control Units (CCUs) connected via ISDN (U1-U5)
  • Telephone Control Unit (TCU) connected via ISDN
  • Up to 4 radio transceivers
  • Up to 8 additional receivers
  • External loudspeaker

Optional:

  • 3 additional Crew Control Units (CCUs) using extra ISDN interface cards
  • Additional transceiver interfaces via extra radio interface card

MDIS Modular Components

Central Switch (CS) - The heart of the MDIS, which interfaces with all traffic (digital, voice, data, transceiver control and power) from tanks, APCs and other vehicle units; functions both as a client and a server.
 CS features:

  • 2 Ethernet connectors - 1 for System Control Unit (SCU), 1 for LAN
  • 5 Connections to Crew Control Units (CCUs) via ISDN
  • 4 Transceiver connections + 8 additional receivers
  • Radio encryptor connector
  • Computer connector
  • Hull connector (to slip rings)
  • Power connector
  • External Loudspeaker (XLS) connector

System Control Unit (SCU) - The monitor and configuring terminal, providing a unified interface for different transceivers working simultaneously; able to reconfigure an entire tank battalion in minutes.
 SCU features:

  • Advanced HMI with highly intuitive GUI
  • Control functions for system parameters, transceiver level/frequency definitions and control, encryption mode, listening programs, radio silence, intercom/ extercom volume, dimming of all system lights
  • Re-programming capacity from external PC via the vehicle’s Ethernet LAN

Crew Control Units (CCU) - Full internal intercom and external radio communication for each crew
member, enabling them to operate across the dedicated listening programs required for their tasks.
 CCU features:

  • Flexible listening-program functionality: Commander Channel, Night Park, Emergency Override
  • 16 LEDs allow crew members easy monitoring of system status and radio traffic
  • Built-in dynamic noise reduction mechanism based on advanced DSP algorithms
  • 2 audio headsets for redundancy, each with its own volume control

Telephone Control Unit (TCU) - Rear attachment that connects with a standard handset in place of a headset; operates like a standard CCU for full intercom/extercom capacity (including "Night Park").
 TCU features:

  • Controlled by vehicle’s commander setting
  • Connected via ISDN

HUB for fast LAN deployment (optional) - An especially rugged unit enabling armored vehicles to establish a comprehensive internal LAN, with no prior adjustment needed.
 HUB features:

  • Provides 7-port 10baseT to SCU or other connection
  • 32 Analog Alarm Inputs connect directly to vehicle sensors
  • Alarms translated into TCP/IP and passed to CS, which generates voice messages

MDIS System Features and Advantages:

  • Full duplex internal – full/half duplex external
  • Digital noise reduction mechanism
  • Completely flexible listening programs
  • Special listening program for external loudspeaker
  • ISDN connection between CS & CCUs
  • Seamless interface to vehicle’s LAN network
  • Vocal emergency warning generation for critical situations via LAN
  • Fully meets all MIL-STD-810E & MIL-STD-461D requirements
  • Standard dimensions easily fit into existing mountings
  • Compatible with all existing RF transceivers
  • Easy maintainability
  • Dedicated Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) for built-in testing of all system elements for online failure
  • Fully protected against surges, spikes, short circuits, EMP and reversed polarity
  • "Night Park" enables daisy-chain via external line interfaces for multi-vehicle intercom
